Tempranillo
DESCRIPTION
The environment in Aragon is also perfect for the production of quality wines from the most typical Spanish variety. Known as “tinto fino” or “cencibel” elsewhere, the Tempranillo grape is perfectly at home in Aragon, preferring more moderate climes and plantations with more water available. Living up to its name, this variety is early ripening and has quite a short cycle. The clusters are elongated – with clear “shoulders” – and produce excellent yields. Elegant wines are the result, though not that deep in colour, that are almost always aged in wood to create a firm structure and round out the tannins. The musts are a deep red and the wines fragrant and subtle, low in acidity. The aromatic notes of red fruit and licorice stand out in the palette. This variety can produce everything from complex aged wines to fresh and fragrant rosés.
