Most of our grenache is found in high altitude areas, over 1000 metres above sea level (the highest vineyards in Aragon), on significantly sloped land that favours aeration of the vineyard and disease prevention.
The complex terrain makes mechanization of the vineyards very difficult and most of the cultivation tasks are performed by hand, showing strong commitment to the environment. Our treasure: small plots comprising 3,200 hectares of vines on different soils - highlights being the stony and slate soils - pertaining to almost 1,000 winegrowers.
Red varieties account for 92% of the Designation of Origin. Grenache is king, occupying some 1,730 hectares, about 70% of the total area. The climate allows for a slow ripening of the grapes. The yields per vine are low and the crop grows with hardly any incidences of pests or diseases.
Cultivation of vines in the area dates back to the 2nd century BC. Marcus Valerius Martialis was the first to write on the quality of the wines in the region.
