Merlot

DESCRIPTION

The versatility and elegance that comes through in both single varietal and blended wines ensures this grape is one of the most prolific around the world. This variety is very delicate in our region: it buds early, so it is very sensitive to spring frosts. Unfortunately it is highly susceptible to Mildew and Botrytis and also suffers in warmer areas where there is less water available. The Merlot grape is, however, the leading figure in some of the most iconic red wines in the world: its thick skins provide delicate aromas of black fruit, balsamic notes – sometimes minty – and a velvety tannin. This set of characteristics makes it ideal for the production of aged wines – with the potential for further time in the bottle – either as single varietals or in blends, the most typical with Cabernet Sauvignon (likewise from Bordeaux)
