Macabeo
DESCRIPTION
Known as Viura in other parts of Spain, the Macabeo variety is one of the native white varieties in Aragon and perfectly adapted to all the designations in the area. It is a very productive variety – the yields must be controlled – with its large, tightly clustered bunches. This variety is of great importance to our region, though it was considered for a long time only for the production of young and fruity wines. Nowadays, it has a unique potential and can produce some of the finest whites in the region. With the right field work, this variety bears witness to the origin of its soils, giving rise to elegant wines with notes of white fruit, citrus and aniseed over a strongly refreshing base, with great potential for ageing. Not for nothing has this variety been used to make biologically aged wines, and it is one of the great figures of the vaunted “Vinos Rancios”. A jewel waiting to be discovered.
